How to become a pilot?
The first step to towards learning to fly is a theory course, which is held in a cosy lecturing room at the Warsaw Flight Academy. Upon completion of the theory course you will obtain a certificate of course completion.
This certificate must be then presented to the Civil Aviation Office, where you must enrol to an examination session to check your knowledge of theory. Simultaneously to the theory examinations, the trainees start their flying lessons. Only a Level 2 Pilot Medical Check-up is required to take up a practical course.
Having completed your practical training, you obtain a certificate of practical training completion. This certificate together with your aviation radio operator license (application must be submitted to the Office of Electronic Communications – the license is issued when you pass an examination at the Office) and a current medical certificate of at least Level 3 Pilot’s Medical Check-up must be presented to the Civil Aviation Office to get enrolled to a practical examination, which – when passed satisfactorily – entitles you to obtain the desired private pilot’s license. From then on the world becomes smaller.
NIGHT VISUAL FLIGHT RULES (NVFR)
FTO Ad Astra Warsaw Flight Academy holds a certificate to offer Night VFR trainings to persons not holding a pilot’s license. The Night VFR qualification allows you to fly at night. Even as a private pilot you may occasionally need to take off or to land after sunset. The reasons may be of various nature – to arrive at a given place on time, when a flight time is longer than expected due to unfavourable weather conditions or other circumstances. Therefore, we recommend you take additional two days of lectures immediately after you complete your PPL(A) theory course. You will have your practical NVFR training after you complete your practical training for the pilot’s license and pass the state practical examination. You then present the CAO with the examination report of the passed state examination and the certificate of completion of the theory and practical trainings for the Night VFR qualification. Such a procedure allows you to obtain a private pilot’s license with NVFR.
How to become a commercial pilot?
Many of you dream of flying a big passenger jet. Ad Astra Warsaw Flight Academy will make your dream come true by providing trainings for all type of qualifications required by airline recruitment departments.
Training Steps for Frozen ATPL(A):
- theory training for a private pilot license (PPL(A));
- practical training for a private pilot license (while attending the training, we recommend to take the state theory examinations at the CAO);
- state examination at the Office of Electronic Communications to obtain a general aviation radio operator license;
- PPL(A) state practical examination before an examiner appointed by the CAO;
- having obtained your private pilot license (PPL(A)), you must take a theory course for an airline transportation pilot license (ATPL(A)). In the meantime you can take the following trainings:
- theory training for Night VFR – short course, 10 hours of lectures;
-
practical training for Night VFR – 5 hrs;
- having completed the ATPL(A) theory course and holding the NVFR qualification, with 50 hours navigation flight time as a pilot-in-command, you can take a practical training for instrument flight rating (IR(A));
- having completed 70 hrs flight time in command, you may take a theory training for multi-engine piston (land) aircraft (MEP(L));
- practical training for MEP(L);
- state practical training for the IR(A) and MEP(L) qualifications before an examiner appointed by the CAO;
- having completed 150 hrs flight time, you must take a practical training for a commercial pilot license (if you already hold IR(A), your training can be shorter by 10 hrs);
- state practical training for CPL(A) before an examiner appointed by the CAO;
- when you hold a CPL(A) and RR/ME qualifications and you have passed the ATPL(A) theory examination, you meet the airline recruitment requirements (naturally, airlines may set additional requirements as regards flight time or particular aircraft type ratings – these requirements may change depending of the market demand for commercial pilots).
